Clair's Ballet

This was done for a ballet studio based on the outskirts of Hama, Syria (a friendly county that's called Muharda). The client wanted a poster sized design that could serve her Facebook page, Clair Ballet, so she asked for nothing more than the phrase 'Clair Ballet' to be illustrated and designed.

Project Overview

Client: Clair Ballet studio
Timeline: 1 week (2020)
My Role: Graphic Designer

This was done for a ballet studio based on the outskirts of Hama, Syria (a friendly county that's called Muharda). The client wanted a poster sized design that could serve her Facebook page, Clair Ballet, so she asked for nothing more than the phrase 'Clair Ballet' to be illustrated and designed.

Initial Sketches

She didn't have a specific concept in mind, so she gave me the freedom to explore some options. As a start, I had 3 rough sketches to show. Since it's a ballet studio, I wanted to approach a script style lettering that represented elegance, but both modern and unsophisticated at the same time. I didn't want to show her 1 script style with 3 different backgrounds, so I explored some script styles that matched what I needed, as you can see from left to right; a mono-line script, a ribbon styled script, and a traditional high contrasted script. The client happily chose the ribbon styled script.

The color pallet was aimed to represent femininity, delicacy and elegance that I think it enhanced the ribbon effect and gave it a more realistic look.

This is the process from start to finish. The first left one was more of an illustrative approach with visible strokes and a less detailed look, made on the Autodesk Sketchbook app. I wasn't satisfied with the result, so I moved my sketch into Adobe Illustrator and decided to work on details such as shadows and color contrast. Then I finished it off with more textured details and color adjustments on Adobe Photoshop.
